Memorial Day weekend is always the traditional kick off to the summer season, of course. This year we had company for the holiday, Chris's parents. I don't know if they would call it a "vacation" or not because while here Chris put them to work (chopping down trees, restaining the front wood door, putting the new net on our trampoline, etc) but they did also get to enjoy 2 baseball games, a day at the pool, a cookout and lots of hugs from Max. We also visited the cemetery where my Dad's mom and dad are buried as part of our Memorial Day festivities. Max was way interested in the history of all the people buried on the hilltop cemetery. He even took flowers from our house to place on their headstones.
This summer Max is on two swim teams; he continues to swim for the year-round Coffman YMCA Crocodiles and this year has also joined the Dunsinane Dolphins summer team. Since summer leagues are way more laid back Max had decided to take a little break from his year-round team, which is much more intense. He is really enjoying Dunsinane and meeting lots of new friends! Bragger alert... thanks to all his persistence and great coaching at CFY, he is one of the best swimmers in his age group at Dunsinane! Proof below... (click the photo to see it enlarged)
He now insists his favorite stroke is the butterfly (it used to be back stroke) and with good reason! He took 2nd place overall in his most recent meet with a super fast time and a legal stroke! (he was super worried about getting disqualified) We were all so proud.
The 7-8 Boys Free Relay Team
He has at least one more baseball game this afternoon, as long as the weather holds out, and has had a fun season playing coach pitch. His favorite position is 1st base (good things he's a lefty!) but he also loves catcher.
Tennis also started last week for Max. It's three days a week all summer long... in the middle of the day. But he loves it! We played him up with the 8-10 year olds this year and he loves that they actually play against each other.
So our June days have been spent running Max from one outdoor event to another... thank goodness for sunscreen and warm summer days...
